The town of Katakwi in Eastern Uganda became a beacon of empowerment and opportunity as women entrepreneurs gathered for a transformative sensitization workshop under the GROW Project. The event, focusing on economic empowerment for women entrepreneurs, was graced by the Vice President of Uganda, H.E. Jessica Alupo, who served as the chief guest, underscoring the government’s commitment to fostering women entrepreneurship.
The GROW Project, dedicated to empowering women entrepreneurs, organized this pivotal workshop to equip women entrepreneurs with the necessary skills, knowledge, and resources to thrive in their businesses. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance economic participation and uplift women across various regions of Uganda.
Vice President Jessica Alupo, in her inspirational address, highlighted the critical importance of empowering women for national development. “Women are the pillars of our communities and their economic empowerment is key to our nation’s progress. The GROW Project is a vital initiative that not only provides financial support but also the training and mentorship needed to build sustainable businesses,” she stated.
The workshop featured several interactive sessions led by industry experts and successful entrepreneurs who shared their experiences and insights. Topics covered included financial literacy, business management, marketing strategies, and accessing microfinance. The aim was to provide a comprehensive understanding of how to start, manage, and grow a successful business.
In her speech, Vice President Alupo also emphasized the government’s role in supporting female entrepreneurs through favorable policies and initiatives. “The government is dedicated to creating an enabling environment for women in business. We are implementing policies that ensure women have access to the resources they need to succeed,” she assured the attendees.
One of the standout moments of the workshop was the exhibition, where women entrepreneurs from Katakwi showcased their products. From handcrafted jewelry and textiles to organic agricultural produce, the diversity and quality of the products were a testament to the entrepreneurial spirit and creativity of the women in the region.
Anna Akello, a participant who exhibited her line of handmade jewelry, expressed her excitement about the opportunities the GROW Project is creating. “This workshop has given me invaluable insights and the confidence to expand my business. It’s inspiring to see so many women coming together to support each other,” she shared.
The event concluded with a networking session, providing the women with an opportunity to connect, share ideas, and form partnerships. The positive energy and enthusiasm among the participants were palpable, signaling a promising future for women entrepreneurs in Katakwi.
